Share a folder
Give people access to a whole folder — every file inside, all subfolders — with one share.
Sharing a folder grants access to every file inside it — including all subfolders — in a single step. Each file is still encrypted on your device and re-wrapped for each recipient individually; the folder is a convenient scope, not a weaker kind of share.
When you use it
You want someone to work through a set of documents together — a matter, a project, a client file — without sending each file one by one.
How it differs from sharing a file
- Registered users and teams only. A folder cannot be shared by public link or by email invite to someone without a DocuID account.
- The recipient accepts first. A folder share sits as pending until the recipient accepts it from Shared With Me — files are not visible before that.
- It is a snapshot in time. Files already inside are covered immediately. Files you add later need a manual update from My Shares (see below). Files you remove or move out drop out of the share on their own.
Start from the folder
From Files open the folder's row menu (···) and choose
Share. The wizard opens with the folder already selected.
Set access
Choose Unlimited (no expiry) or Limited (expiry date plus a maximum number of opens), then set permissions: download, print, notifications, and per-open approval. These rules apply to every file in the folder.
Add recipients and send
Pick DocuID users or whole teams. Your device re-encrypts every file's key for each recipient — a large folder with many recipients can take a moment before the share is created.
What the recipient sees
The share arrives as a notification and a pending row in Shared With Me. Nothing is readable until they accept.
After accepting, the folder opens to a read-only listing of its covered files and subfolders. Files open in the same encrypted viewer as individually shared documents.
Manage it later
Open the folder's row menu and choose Manage sharing to see every recipient, their access level, and status — and to revoke anyone instantly. Revoking removes access to the folder and every file inside it, even for people who still have the email.
When you add files to an already-shared folder, My Shares shows a banner on that share with a Share new files button — the new files are wrapped for the same recipients in one click.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Only registered DocuID users…" | Remove the email invite — folders can only go to users and teams with DocuID accounts. |
| "Has not set up encryption keys yet" | Ask the person to sign in once; that creates their keys. Share again after. |
| Recipient can't see a new file | Open My Shares and use Share new files on that share. |
| Share folder is disabled | Unlock your vault first — re-encrypting keys happens on your device. |
