Vault setup and recovery
First run creates your private vault on this device — understand it once.
On first-time setup your browser creates your personal vault. It never leaves this device in readable form. What is stored online is locked and useless without you.
When you use it
The first time you sign in to a new DocuID account, and whenever you recover access with your recovery key.
Your device creates the vault
During onboarding the browser generates your vault on this device. DocuID keeps no readable copy of your files or of the key that opens them.
It is tied to your iVALT identity
Later sign-ins on a new browser still start with a biometric approval on the same registered mobile number. You are not asked for a password.
Save the recovery key offline
You are shown a recovery key. Write it down and store it somewhere safe, separate from your phone. If you lose the phone and cannot open the vault, this key is the only way back.
There is no password reset. Because DocuID cannot open your vault, support cannot recover files without your recovery key. That trade-off is what makes the vault trustworthy.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Vault stays locked | Approve the iVALT prompt, then retry the action (upload, view, share). |
| New computer or browser | Sign in with iVALT as usual. Complete vault unlock on that device. |
| Recovery key lost | Support cannot reconstruct it. Files in that vault cannot be recovered. |
| Recovery key leaked | Treat it as a full account compromise. Contact support. |
